Akif Mahmood at PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week Lahore 2011

Akif Mehmood’s latest collection entitled ‘Fkeemi (Rags to Riches) at PFDC Sunsilk Fashion WeekLahore 2011 was inspired by Pakistan’s improvished yet eclectically attired members of the gypsy community, often seen in urban centers in multi print/fabric traditional shalwar kameez and patch worked clothes with heavily pierced ears and noses.

The latest collection was brimming with fabrics and textures such as khaddar, cotton, tapestry and brocades. The basic silhouette was simple and flared with fitted waists, structured jackets, long and short coats with both longer and shorter lengths with some pieces incorporating patchwork and embroideries.

Talking about his collection the designer Akif Mehmood said “Whatever I design has to have a touch of our own culture and tradition. No matter how Western the collection is or how modern the cuts are, it should have some elements of our culture, because I believe this is how we can create something different from the rest of the world”

Recently Rupani Foundation started other projects including, early child development initiatives and hydro electric power generation.
Annie Rupani while sharing her experiences with the Rupani Foundation said that she had been to the mountainous areas of Pakistan and spoke to the women whose lives were changing under those initiatives as they were given opportunities to work outside of the house. “I strongly believe in its values and approach to create a higher standard of living for all in Pakistan” said Miss Pakistan World 2010, Annie Rupani.
